-The film is touted to be an investigation thriller with Vijay playing the lead role of  a Army Officer investigating several mysteries in Mumbai.



- This is the first Indian film to be shot with the famous Arri Alexa Camera which was used for the hollywood blockbuster The Avengers.



- Ar Murugadoss had confirmed on his twitter to a fan that he will make this film a class suspense mystery where the lead actor uses his brains to solve the case.



- Ar Murugadoss mentioned in a interview to Indiaglitz that Thuppakki is a commercial entertainer with a difference while it is commercial he said it wont follow any sort of formula previously seen in Tamil action films. This basically means that it won't have stereotypical unwanted elements such as crying, dragging, slapstick comedy, or masala elements. However, it will have the commercial touch of songs, humour, action, and love.

-The full film is shot in Mumbai and many of the scenes have been shot with hidden cameras in real locations where even the citizens of Mumbai were not aware that they were being filmed live.

-Sathyan revealed that he plays a police officer in the movie who helps his close friend Jagadish solve the cases. He also revealed that his role is equivalent to a second hero and whenever his character does good work and reaches promotion stage, Jagadish does not promote him and leaves him in his original stage.



- Ar Murugadoss said in a video interview that the film's love portions will be fun from beginning to end meaning it won't get serious or sad at any portion. He said that unlike his earlier film Ghajini the love will be fun and sweet for the whole film. His previous film Ghajini had the fun and sweetness component in the first half however in the second half it turned more serious and sad.



- Ar Murugadoss also mentioned that this film will reveal the two sides of Mumbai. One side will be completely rich and luxurious where as the other side of Mumbai will be like a documentary with raw and rugged real locations.



- Ilayathalapathy Vijay has sung one song in this film which is said to be a Ultra-modern club song.
